Turntablism

Photobucket is the art of manipulating sounds and creating music using phonograph turntables and a DJ mixer. The word 'turntablist' was coined in 1995 by DJ Babu to describe the difference between a DJ who just plays records, and one who performs by touching and moving the records, stylus and mixer to manipulate sound. The new term co-occurred with a resurgence of the art of hip hop style DJing in the nineties. John Oswald described the art: "A phonograph in the hands of a 'hiphop/scratch' artist who plays a record like an electronic washboard with a phonographic needle as a plectrum, produces sounds which are unique and not reproduced -- the record player becomes a musical instrument."Hip-hop turntablist DJs use turntable techniques like beat mixing/matching, scratching, and beat juggling. Some turntablists seek to have themselves recognized as legitimate musicians capable of interacting and improvising with other performers, focusing more on turntable technique, others craft intricate compositions focused more on mixing.
Turntablism as a modern art form and musical practice has its roots within hip hop and hip hop culture of the early 1970s. Scratching was already widespread within hip hop by DJs and producers by the time turntablists started to appear.

The art of playing the turntable as a musical instrument. Not to be confused with DJing, which is more about providing dance music and/or mixing beats. Turntablism is more about manipulating sounds and creating rhythms or even melodies by scratching and techniques using a mixer.
Not all DJs are turntablists, but all turntablists (with a few rare exceptions) are DJs.

MC or Master of Ceremonies

In the late 1970s, the term MC (master of ceremonies) became associated with the role also known as that of the rapper in hip hop music and culture. An MC uses rhyming verses, whether pre-written or freestyled, to introduce and praise the DJ he or she works with, to hype up the crowd, to pay homage to his own stature, or to comment on society.
These MCs eventually created a new style of music called hip-hop based on the rhyming they used to do in Jamaica and the breakbeats used in records. MC has also recently been accepted to refer to all who engineer music.
Emcee derived from the original abbreviation "MC," now used as the generic term for anyone who speaks over a beat, or performs songs that could be termed "hip-hop." Afrika Bambaataa and his contemporaries at the Universal Zulu Nation were the first to exemplify this term. Originated as a term for the only individual at a party who could speak on the microphone while the DJ (Disk Jockey) was looping the hook or the beat. Various individuals claim that MC stands for the following: 1: Master of Ceremonies, generally the speaker presiding over a formal gathering, or the host of a Jamaican gameshow. 2: Move the Crowd. Originally proclaimed by the legendary emcee Rakim (of the group Eric B. and Rakim) on his 1986 urban hit "Eric B. Is President;" to Rakim, an MC was any rapper who was able to control the crowd that he was presiding over. 3: Microphone Controller. 4: Mic Checka
MC (Master of Ceremonies), a lyricist, Rapper. Considered by most to be more than just an ordinary rapper. A step above just a rapper an emcee not only writes great lyrics, but also rocks the stage equally well. One who raps with skill.
